Men’s A Grade
The Toowoomba Titans A-grade Men’s team suffered a crucial minor final loss on Friday Night against second ranked University of Queensland at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre. The Titans who finished on top of the ladder played an experienced UQ team. The game was very tense and close throughout the entire match with the Titans winning the first set followed by UQ winning the second. The Titans came back winning the third and looked like they had the match in the fourth with a lead towards the end of the set, however, outside hitter Jeff Russell suffered severe leg cramps and had no choice but to be substituted. The change put the Titans under pressure and were unable finish the set letting UQ come back to win the fourth. The Titans inexperience in finals playoff games saw them lose composure in the fifth and final set, allowing the experienced UQ team to win comfortably and go into the Gold Medal match in two weeks for the sixth time in six years.
The loss however is not it for the Titans, they will get another chance to get back into the grand final as they play the Brisbane Dragons this Friday night at Redlands. The Titans are 1 – 1 against the Dragons Club this season. The Titans are extremely hungry for the first grand final opportunity for Toowoomba in Premier League history. They hope to use the valuable experience gained in their recent loss to defeat Dragons.
Men’s Reserve Grade
Reserve Titans Men also had a loss in a close encounter with top of the ladder University of Queensland losing 3-2. The loss placed them in a similar situation as the A-grade men with a second chance this Friday night to getting a grand final chance.
Women’s A Grade
The Toowoomba Reserve women’s team played their final round match against Norths on Sunday at Harristown SHS. The women played extremely well, defeating Norths comfortably 3-0. The women now get a week off before they play their Grand Final match in two weeks.
