There was an error in the Womens’ B Grade Matches (Downlands, Lofty, CHSHS, Concordia and Fairholme have matches affected).
It’s our last regular season round this week, next week is Semi Finals.
I haven’t received any comments regarding the results page, so that seems to be satisfactory to most.
I fixed the team editor this week as well, so it would be great if you can check your team lists and make sure they’re up to date – if you could also check date of birth’s for those that entered them, that would be appreciated – there were some issues with the way dates were handled at the start of the season. This will be one of those things you should ask me about when you have a spare hour or 2.
Please Note! Most teams will still play next week
- the top 4 teams will play off to decide which medal match they will play in.
- moving down the remaining teams, 5th will play 6th, 7th will play 8th.
- If you are the last team in a division with an odd number, then you won’t play next week.
I know there are 3 schools with awards nights during the next 3 weeks, and the final week of school is always difficult for our year 12’s, so I will be making some changes to try and work around these as best I can.
The standard of duty teams has been pretty ordinary in recent weeks – and I’m not just talking about score sheets or referee’s. The second ref and linesman need to be paying attention – not talking to their friends, or using their phones – this goes for the whole duty team. Please show some respect to the teams you are doing duty for – I know that you don’t appreciate it when your duty team is showing a complete lack of respect for your match. The worst part is that the teams doing the worst duties are our senior teams – maybe some of you should watch the C Grade girls matches to remind you how it should be done.
Please Note: There were errors for Women’s A Grade on the MyTeam website – they have been fixed now. Please double check it.
There have been a few changes to the draw for Women’s B Grade – I have swapped this round with the next round. Please check the draw carefully.
The online draw has been updated – and also shows the byes for each round as well now.
The results have been updated – I have made a change to the way we handle byes, and they are now counted as points. This means we will no longer use the average method to calculate the rankings for each division. I don’t think this is a perfect system still, but I think it will be easier for people to follow. Part of the reason for this is that the previous scoring method did not discourage teams from waiting until 2 or 3 weeks before joining the competition, which has started to become an issue.
At the moment the results are formatted for viewing on phones – I will be adding a larger display in the future, but for the moment it is on the smaller side. You can click on your team name and it will show a list of your matches with the result for each one. At some stage I will add the ability to click on those results and show a detailed match result, but it isn’t available just yet.
If you have any concerns regarding this change – now is the time to talk to me about it. I realise it is very late in the season to be publishing the results and making changes to the scoring system, I am asking everyone for patience as the changes are being made to try and improve things in the long term, not just for this season.
Awards Night & X-Mas Party
Our awards night will be held on the 16th of November at the South Toowoomba Bowls Club.
Once again TVA will subsidise the costs so it will only cost you $20 for adults and $15 for children. This will cover you for a roast meal and barefoot bowls – hopefully the weather is better this year and we can get on the greens. Tickets will be available soon – and will be required to enter the function. All senior trophies will be presented at the awards night.
There are a couple of changes to the draw that was available online (which was updated on Monday morning).
Hawks Old Girls are unavailable this week, so I have made a couple of changes to the Women’s A Grade matches, so please check the draw carefully.
I know I said they would be online by now, but I have had a few setbacks that I have been working most of the weekend on – anybody that really wants to be bored with the intricacies of database design for a half an hour is quite welcome to come and ask me about it. Before you do, you might want to give some thought to how to go about recording match results for a round robin social competition (Business League), a 5 set unlimited time (which means a variable number of completed sets) round robin competition (Premier League), a tournament with pools and repechages (Clash of the Titans) and then throw in a 1 day competition with random teams (Volley4’s)! I had most of this was already figured out, but making it all work was another thing altogether.
I should be entering the actual results tonight after work.
Thanks for your patience.
Welcome back, I hope everyone enjoyed the break.
I am hoping to get the results finished and online tonight – it’s pretty close to being updated, but I am travelling in daylight savings stricken NSW at the moment so I might not get it finished before volleyball tomorrow night – I should get it finished off at volleyball though.
Training starts tonight for the Good Neighbour tournament in Canberra, so if you are interested in playing for the Titans, this is a great opportunity to be part of a really enjoyable tournament.
