Round 5 Draw (v2) Updated @ Monday 10am
Toowoomba Grammar has had to forfeit it’s senior matches, so the draw has had to change.
Mens A grade, and A Reserve have had several changes, so you will need to check the draw carefully.
Please note that we have had to schedule a Men’s A Reserve match in the Green gym – which will involve a duty team as well, so please check the draw carefully. I know the roof in the Green gym is a bit low for a lot of the players in this division, but I didn’t see any viable alternatives for 1 match. CHSHS 12 – you have the duty in there after your game.
I have done up the draw for the rest of the season, managing to balance duty matches and byes pretty evenly across all of the divisions. They will be put up on the website this week.
Speaking of the website, I am expecting to make some updates this week – thanks for your patience with this process. Electronic scoring, results and standings as well as invoicing is all being worked on, so it’s not a simple job.
During the first few weeks of the season we had some issues with duty teams, particularly having to chase teams to find someone to run the warm up according to the protocol, which is available on every score bench.
A lot of teams have to organise buses and taxi’s to pick them up at the end of their games, so it is important that we not only keep to time, but we make the most of that time as well – there is only an hour for the warm up and game time. At the moment teams are not making very good use of the warm up period as players are not ready to go when the previous match is finished.
While we don’t need the whole team to be available for the warm up, we do need at least one person to run the warm up – starting from the end of the last match.
We would appreciate it if you could all make an extra effort to to make sure someone is running the protocol correctly. It would be great if we didn’t have to remind anyone this week!
Round 4 is on next week – the 27th of March – hopefully no-one is unable to make it due to the incorrect date on the draw that went online last week.
We are missing quite a few teams as a couple of the schools are unavailable this week.
We will return for Round 5 after a 3 week break, on the 24th of April.
Toowoomba had a large number of players in the Aces Tournament held last weekend with teams from Titans and USQ participating.
The Titans came away with 2 Gold medals which most of you may have seen on facebook already. It was even in the paper during the week, which was great to see.
Here is the draw for the rest of the season.
An easier to read draw for Round 2 is also available.
Hopefully there are no errors but if captains could check their own draw and duties that would be great. Let me know if you find any errors. Most of the time you have a duty every second week but you may get 2 in a row so check carefully each week.
Round 2 (v2) Draw updated Sunday night.
Another tough weekend, slowly adding more functionality to the new web site.
You can now Manage your teams by going through Select Teams, and Taking Ownership of those teams you are in charge of. Please add in your players as soon as possible – it will make the electronic coring work much easier. There were some issues with logging in to the website in order to enter your registration details, but I’m hoping we have fixed most issues – although I think safari users on Apple hardware is still having issues – Chrome seems to work on those machines though. Everyone needs to sign up and enter their registration details as soon as possible.
If someone else has taken ownership of your team, you can request Ownership – which will notify me and I will look into it manually. Next season, all of the teams will be nominated beforehand so you will automatically have ownership of the teams you nominate.
I would recommend that one person from each school take Ownership of their teams, and then add your coaches in as managers – or however you would like to do it. The Teams you select will appear by default when you log in, but for now it is a large list to select from. That will change soon.
I am still planning to use electronic scoring, but as I haven’t had any time to test it – this week we are going to have both paper scoring an electronic. If you have the later games and there are no tablets to score on – that will mean things have not gone well. We will be trying not to hold up the game if there is a problem with the tablets. The score sheet will be the important part to keep correct, the tablet can be behind, and we will enter the final correct score later.
If you haven’t checked out the website recently, go have a look – it’s looking pretty good… although I may be a touch biased.
I have done up a draw for this week. We have 28 teams which fills up all 7 courts, 10 in A and B grade and 8 in C grade. The last team nominated yesterday so it is still possible there might be some-one else and there would be a bye. Please check your team is here and take note of duty teams for this week. Hopefully teams will be in uniform soon and don’t forget to pay early to get the discounts. You can still pay online using the direct deposit method into Heritage but Jason is working on the credit card/PayPal online payment too. As this is not yet available you will still get the $40 + $50 early bird option for the next couple of weeks. Team nomination forms should be up soon but as long as I have your name you are right to play.

For any new teams down for duty – that’s the team in brackets after the match – you just need to provide 2 team members to score the next (or earlier) game on a simple scoresheet plus flipcards. Referees will be provided but A grade teams on duty should be prepared to ref their own games until I am sure of my referee numbers.
Remember we are there to enjoy the game so have fun and be kind to the refs who are mostly school students.
See you all Wednesday
I have attached an updated draw which should show everyone’s first game, and even better – should be a bit easier to read! I have also attached the final pool positions for B Grade so you can double check that I got it right!
Timeout’s in the last 5 minutes are not really in the spirit of a social tournament – we’re not making a rule on it – we’re trying to keep the number of rules to an absolute minimum, but if there’s less than 5 minutes of play left, do you really need a time out?
