I have done up a draw for this week. We have 28 teams which fills up all 7 courts, 10 in A and B grade and 8 in C grade. The last team nominated yesterday so it is still possible there might be some-one else and there would be a bye. Please check your team is here and take note of duty teams for this week. Hopefully teams will be in uniform soon and don’t forget to pay early to get the discounts. You can still pay online using the direct deposit method into Heritage but Jason is working on the credit card/PayPal online payment too. As this is not yet available you will still get the $40 + $50 early bird option for the next couple of weeks. Team nomination forms should be up soon but as long as I have your name you are right to play.

For any new teams down for duty – that’s the team in brackets after the match – you just need to provide 2 team members to score the next (or earlier) game on a simple scoresheet plus flipcards. Referees will be provided but A grade teams on duty should be prepared to ref their own games until I am sure of my referee numbers.
Remember we are there to enjoy the game so have fun and be kind to the refs who are mostly school students.
See you all Wednesday
I have attached an updated draw which should show everyone’s first game, and even better – should be a bit easier to read! I have also attached the final pool positions for B Grade so you can double check that I got it right!
Timeout’s in the last 5 minutes are not really in the spirit of a social tournament – we’re not making a rule on it – we’re trying to keep the number of rules to an absolute minimum, but if there’s less than 5 minutes of play left, do you really need a time out?
1 Match added!
We had 2 teams with a 5 hour gap – so we added an extra game. Please note: it won’t count towards their competition points.
The gold medal matches for both grades will be a 3 set match – the 3rd set will be to 15.
All other matches will be time limited. The 3rd set in those matches will be to 25 – think best of 5 sets.
The 3rd set will count as a set if the score is 13 or over with a 2 point lead.
Thanks to Dave Kelly for the B Grade Road Map – B Grade Road Map
Also available is the canteen menu. The canteen will help some of our local juniors who will be travelling overseas to represent Australia in Thailand.
We look forward to seeing you all there.
Hopefully everyone has noticed the website has had some updates over the break.
Our fees page has been updated – or more accurately, created. TVA Fees Page. It’s not linked into the rest of the pages properly just yet, but that will be fixed in the next few days. If you have any questions about the fees, make sure you look through some of the frequently asked questions on that page to make sure they haven’t been answered already.
Hopefully you can read all of the web site on your phones as well – if you can’t then please let me know. If it’s because your screen is busted, you can assume that I don’t really want to know that.
There will be more changes happening in the near future as we bring online our new systems for:
- team nominations
- team management
- electronic scoring
- online payments
- match results
- competition standings
During the next 2 weeks you may receive an email from us, inviting you to create an account on our website. Through this account you will be able to sign up and fill out your registration details, nominate teams, and pay your fees, although all of that may not be available straight away. You don’t have to sign up, but we highly recommend that you do.
If you want to receive updates regarding the competition you are playing in, you will need to create an account. We will maintain a general email list that will receive notices of upcoming tournaments, musters and general news items that you won’t need an account to receive. We will be adding an automated unsubscribe link for those that don’t want to receive any news from us (it will be working in the next one, so I’m afraid you will have to receive 1 more email at least).
We do expect to have some problems over the next few weeks as we bring these systems online. We are asking for your patience during this time, and also for your feedback to let us know if something is broken, or not working as you would expect. We will be staggering the invitations to sign up to try to spread out the demands on the web server – so some of you will get to be the
guinea pigs, very important initial testers.
Just a reminder that nominations for our pre-season tournament – Clash of the Titans will be closing on the 18th of February. See our website for more details. The Clash will be on the 24th and 25th of February – if you’re not playing feel free to come along and watch some great volleyball.
If you have any concerns, or questions, please contact me at [email protected]
We look forward to seeing you in just under 2 weeks at musters on the 27th of February.
on behalf of Toowoomba Volleyball Association
If you don’t have a team yet, or still need a few players, then the musters are where you need to be.
Looking to play some mixed social volleyball, or haven’t played for a while and looking to start slowly?
Check out our Business League competition.
If you’re looking for something more competitive then check out Premier League.
For those interested in playing for the Toowoomba Titans – our representative team, we expect that you should be playing in our Premier League competition as a minimum.
Musters begin at 7:00pm until 8:30pm on the 27th February.
Another season of volleyball has come to an end… well almost – our Men’s and Women’s Titans teams are heading to Canberra in a few weeks for the Good Neighbour tournament, so they’re still training in preparation.
Our Awards night and Xmas party was held last Friday – unfortunately the cold and wet weather meant we didn’t get to do any bowling. There were nearly 90 people present, which is easily our largest presentation night in the last decade. Thanks to everyone who came out and made it a great night. It was a night for emotional speeches and reminiscing, a sign of the depth of experience and passion we have within our association. It was great to see so many teams from Business League turn up to receive their awards – Results for Business League and Premier League are on the website.
Our representative teams, the Titans, have had a great year – the highlight being our Men winning the inaugural Grand Prix competition – going through the whole competition undefeated. Our Women finished second in the Grand Prix unlucky not to come out on top.
Congratulations to the Titan players who received individual awards:
Most Improved – Saxon Clews
Emerging Athlete – Erin Phillips
Commitment Award – Phillipa Clews
Most Improved – Chris Collins
MVP – Christian Rechtslag
A special thanks to the Fit Lab who have been our major sponsor for the year.
5 of our players were fortunate enough to be named as part of the FitLabs High Performance Sponsored Athlete Program.
Scott Schultz, Zayden Pidgeon, Ethan Farquharson, Erin Phillips, Saxon Clews, and Phillipa Clews will have the opportunity to train in the new High Performance Centre down at the FitLab.
Next year we are making a change to the date for Clash of the Titans, where we will be bringing it forward and using it as a season opener.
Clash of the Titans will be held on the 24th-25th of February with Musters on the following Tuesday (27th Feb).
