Please Note: There were errors for Women’s A Grade on the MyTeam website – they have been fixed now. Please double check it.
There have been a few changes to the draw for Women’s B Grade – I have swapped this round with the next round. Please check the draw carefully.
The online draw has been updated – and also shows the byes for each round as well now.
The results have been updated – I have made a change to the way we handle byes, and they are now counted as points. This means we will no longer use the average method to calculate the rankings for each division. I don’t think this is a perfect system still, but I think it will be easier for people to follow. Part of the reason for this is that the previous scoring method did not discourage teams from waiting until 2 or 3 weeks before joining the competition, which has started to become an issue.
At the moment the results are formatted for viewing on phones – I will be adding a larger display in the future, but for the moment it is on the smaller side. You can click on your team name and it will show a list of your matches with the result for each one. At some stage I will add the ability to click on those results and show a detailed match result, but it isn’t available just yet.
If you have any concerns regarding this change – now is the time to talk to me about it. I realise it is very late in the season to be publishing the results and making changes to the scoring system, I am asking everyone for patience as the changes are being made to try and improve things in the long term, not just for this season.
Awards Night & X-Mas Party
Our awards night will be held on the 16th of November at the South Toowoomba Bowls Club.
Once again TVA will subsidise the costs so it will only cost you $20 for adults and $15 for children. This will cover you for a roast meal and barefoot bowls – hopefully the weather is better this year and we can get on the greens. Tickets will be available soon – and will be required to enter the function. All senior trophies will be presented at the awards night.
There are a couple of changes to the draw that was available online (which was updated on Monday morning).
Hawks Old Girls are unavailable this week, so I have made a couple of changes to the Women’s A Grade matches, so please check the draw carefully.
I know I said they would be online by now, but I have had a few setbacks that I have been working most of the weekend on – anybody that really wants to be bored with the intricacies of database design for a half an hour is quite welcome to come and ask me about it. Before you do, you might want to give some thought to how to go about recording match results for a round robin social competition (Business League), a 5 set unlimited time (which means a variable number of completed sets) round robin competition (Premier League), a tournament with pools and repechages (Clash of the Titans) and then throw in a 1 day competition with random teams (Volley4’s)! I had most of this was already figured out, but making it all work was another thing altogether.
I should be entering the actual results tonight after work.
Thanks for your patience.
This week is the last week before the 2 week break.
Round 8 will be on the 9th of October.
If you haven’t paid yet, this is the last week for regular payments. Penalty fees will apply after this week. School invoices will be sent out this week.
If you haven’t paid yet, please check out the Fees page – there are several examples and Frequently asked Questions at the bottom of the page to help you work out how much you owe.
Any players taking the court after the break that haven’t paid will result in a forfeit for their team.
I have finished the draw for the remainder of the season. Given we had 3 new teams joining this week (1 of them late on Sunday afternoon), it has been quite an effort to get the draw completed and all of the duties balanced as much as possible.
I am updating the MyTeam page with both the Premier League Draw and the Business League Draw but it may be after lunch on Monday before I can get everything working uploaded and working ok.
The draw for this week is available to download.
Downlands have a huge 12 teams in the competition this season, but unfortunately they cannot make it this week, so the draw is a lot smaller as a result!
The draw can also be seen on the Premier League Draw page. (So can the Business League Draw.) Last week it required you to be logged in, and when you were logged in, it looked pretty ordinary on a mobile phone. This has been fixed now and it would be great if people could check it out and let me know if your phone has a problem displaying the draw. Hint: Swiping left and right can change the current round and the currently displayed court.
This Monday night is the last time you can pay the ‘Early Payment’, after Tuesday it will the Regular Payment – which is $70 for adults ($100 for both nights). If you didn’t play in Season 1, then you will also need to pay the VQ Registration fee (an extra $40).
I have switched the MyTeam website so you can add yourself to your team. Team captains can you please ask all of your team to sign up to the MyTeam website, this is for both registration (insurance) and electronic scoring. If they are already registered, then ask them to Join your team, if you haven’t added them already. It will become a requirement to play in the future, so everyone needs to sign up AND register. Please let me know if you are having trouble registering – the Contact form at the bottom of the website works well.
At the moment, joining a team may create duplicates which you can just ignore for the moment. One of the reason’s for this is that we are have to protect personal information so I have been trying to make sure we don’t leak that information to people who are not registered or who have just signed up and are not known to you. This creates some issues where the team ‘owner’ doesn’t know everyone’s email addresses. The email address is how we uniquely identify you on the system. I have some ideas on this, but in the short term it may produce some issues such as duplicates.
I am also putting those team lists onto tablets for scoring – yes, I am still trying to get this happening! This means you can’t just delete players as there may be a record of them taking the court in a match. Again, I have ways to deal with this, but in the first instance I would like to have it working and make it more user friendly second.
I am slowly adding functionality to the MyTeam website – the team editor should be working better now. Personal information is being restricted to the individual – except for email addresses, which are being restricted to the team captains and managers. Cheryl and I have some better tools for checking out the online team lists for Premier League and Business League, and the draw is now showing as a page not a pdf – even on mobiles.
There is a draw editor that had to be made to put the draw up on the website. There is also a payment system to process all the online and cash payments – it just isn’t hooked up to the front page as yet. Next up will be the electronic scoring, and then updating MyTeam to show your next match when you login – which should be particularly useful for our School teams.
There is a notification system in the works to send you an email the day before your match – maybe even txt messages if we can find a cheap provider. I haven’t forgotten about online payments – but the goal of this system is to mainly to stop me from having to type in 300 registration forms by hand and process 24 match results including 48 team lists every week… so the electronic scoring comes first.
Thanks for your patience – I am so looking forward to when the system makes all this easier for us all.
The draw for Premier League is now available.
The web site may not be updated until late Monday night.
Unfortunately we have lost Women’s A Reserve, with some teams dropping back and some going up into A Grade. We have gained 1 team for Women’s A Grade – 5th Element.
I have split Men’s A Reserve into 2 divisions – which means the bottom grade for the Men is now C Grade. Their games are going to be in the Blue gym (at the moment) at 5:50pm. The draw says 5:40, but I will be starting it 10 minutes after that.
Welcome everyone, to Season 2!
For the last couple of weeks the MyTeam website has only been accepting new Team nominations.
During that time, the player’s nominating the teams added players and email addresses to the team lists – so if you haven’t seen your team yet, then your email address hasn’t been entered onto the team list yet. This week, I will switch it back over to the ‘In Season’ mode so you can Join an existing team. This will work better next season – one of those teething issues where you realise you didn’t think ahead to what happens when we start a new season!
We have 2 new rule changes (which will be updated on the website soon)
- We are allowing Juniors who have been selected to play for Qld to play in the Senior competition as well. This is simple for the Women’s competition who play at different times, but for the Men’s competition, the match times overlap, so it’s a touch more complex. Basically the Junior team gets precedence at all times.
- Sets will not commence if there is 5 minutes or less remaining on the clock. I would hope common sense would prevail if there is 5:30 left.
Check the draw carefully as there are a few duties that are on different courts.
We have lost a couple of Women’s A Grade teams due to several of our players being selected in the Pirates squad. Unfortunately they train on Tuesday and Thursday nights which has affected our A Grade competition quite significantly. We are trying to put together another team – if you were unsure if A Grade was going to work for you, now is a great time to have a go.
The same goes for our Junior Men as we only have 3 teams there again as well.
Please checkout the website for Rules, Fees, etc. myTeam.org.au
Musters are on the 31st of July, starting at 7:00pm until around 8:30pm.
Before you can nominate a team you will need to sign up and register on the MyTeam page of the website.
If your friends are looking to play – get them to sign up and register so they can look for a team as well.
If you want to play on both nights, please make 2 submissions, changing the competition in which you want to play each time you submit your nomination.
When you nominate a team, we are asking for the email addresses of all the players in the team (not for school teams) – something we weren’t very good at last season. The email address is very important as we will use it to be able to contact everyone, but also to be able to tell the difference between people with the same name – which is very important when we’re sorting out payments!
You can add the email addresses after nominating the team, so please nominate first, but be aware we will be chasing these up.
Both Leagues will be 13 weeks long – 11 weeks of regular rounds with 2 weeks of finals which will finish up on the 13th of November.
There will be a 2 week break during the season – if schools could check out the Draws page to make sure the break lines up with their school holidays that would be great.
Fees have not changed for this season – if you played in first season, you won’t have to pay the VQ Registration fee again this season.
You will see on the Fees page that there are discounts for paying early, and penalties for paying late as well.
The Contact Us form in the footer of the page is the best way to get in touch with us.
